Shelley LJ225 Supplied in the toolkits of Austin Healey 3000 BT7, BN7 and BJ7 twin carburettor cars and through to the tri-carburettor cars from about June 1960 to early BJ8 production. The the change point to a similar jack with reinforced yoke is not known for certain, but claimed by one Ebay seller to be 1965. The LJ225 was never supplied with the Healey 100-6 nor the 3000 Mk1. However, it was also supplied in the toolkit of MGA Deluxe, 1600, and 1600 Mark II from July of 1960 (car number 93548) to the end of production. It is marked "SHELLEY LJ 225" on one side, CA265 DH Prov Pat" on the other side, and "CA259" cast into the top yoke. The handle was a 12" round bar and painted black. See "Original MGA" by Clausager page 34 and Anderson/Moment "Austin Healey Restoration Guide" page 133. Barney Gaylord notes on his MGA site that the handle was 13" long to a 45 degree bend, then another 1.5" of bar. Shelley LJ225 This LJ225 has the reinforcing collar around the jack handle hole as mentioned in the narrative 2 above. The jack handle is 18 inches long and 1/2 inch diameter. The jack was supplied with the Austin Healey 3000 Mk III BJ8 Phase II. It carries the serial CA311 on the yoke. One Ebay seller claims that it was introduced in 1965, making it too late for the MGA 1600. The first 2 photographs plus confirmation of the Healey data for both jack types were supplied by Healey owner John McElrath. The jack in the picture shows its original paint, being unrestored. Shelley LJ225 This Shelley LJ225 is the only Shelley jack variant that was supplied with the E-Type Jaguar. It is marked LJ22501 and was always painted grey as shown in the photo. It is a 3 stage screw jack, unlike all other LJ225 variants which are 2-stage. It also has the strengthening gusset between the ratchet pin and the handle hole. This jack was supplied with the first 4972 E-Types as follows:- Right Hand Drive OTS: 850001 to 850548. Left Hand Drive OTS: 875001 to 877518. Right hand Drive FHC: 860001 to 860660. Left Hand Drive FHC: 885001 to 886246. After that all E-Types were supplied with a scissor jack made by METALLIFACTURE. For completeness, a picture is shown here. Shelley LJ225 This Shelley LJ225 Jack appears to be an adaption of the CA311 version (2 above) to suit an E-Type Jaguar. No E-Type was ever issued with this version. Shelley LJ225 Not sure what car used this version of the LJ225. An Austin Healey concours expert advises me that It was not supplied with the big Austin Healey. Also, MGA experts say it was not supplied with the MGA. This version will not fit under either car with a deflated tyre due to the excess height of the extension when fully retracted, as shown in the photo. It does not have a serial number on the yoke. This jack continues to achieve good prices on Ebay, probably through mistaken identity and incorrect advertising.
